Our Jr Farmers Program is designed for youth that are interested in delving more deeply into the aspects of farming. Participants will learn about life on the farm through hands-on activities, observation of the farm ecosystem, and mentorship with our farmers and farm educators. Immersion into various aspects of chemical-free vegetable production, animal care, environmental ecosystem, and edible landscaping will help students learn about the plant and animal kingdoms.
In the current age of technology, tweens and teens with a love for nature could be considered endangered species. Through activities on the farm, youth will explore the environment, experience new opportunities, expand their horizons, and share social time with peers. This community service initiative combines “explorential learning”, with activities that enriches academic endeavors.
In a nutshell, we strive to spark the enthusiasm "to know", build the willpower "to do", teach the wisdom to work together, cultivate the inner strength to take action, and create the freedom "to be." We encourage a life-long love of learning and instill a sense of community.

On the farm, my teens worked in guided teams and on independent activities. They learned about various aspects of agriculture, helped with environmental projects, facility maintenance and land care activities. They developed critical thinking and problem solving skills and had a lot of fun on the farm. I am incredibly grateful for my teens' experience and I am proud of their accomplishments!
My boys have participated in this program for the past several years. On the farm they have gained work ethic, teamwork, communication skills, professional development, community service and family values. HCFC is more than just a farm...it is a family!
