2026 Spring Plant Sale - Saturday, May 9

Growing More Than Food: A New Chapter for Our Education Farm

Food Production Aligned with Education, Access, and Sustainability

In 2026, our Education Farm will align food production with educational outcomes, community access, and long-term sustainability objectives. Food production at our farm is not an end in itself, but a tool for experiential learning, workforce development, and equitable access to healthy, locally grown food.

Instead of operating a CSA, we will produce farm-fresh food for use in our educational programs and for Farm Camp families, while partnering with local organizations to extend food access to the broader community. Two full-time Farm Educators, supported by seasonal staff, will work hand-in-hand with farm visitors to grow food through hands-on, education-based activities that connect agriculture, nutrition, and community well-being.

2026 Production Goals

Our food production goals are designed to integrate learning, access, and sustainability:

  • Center education and experiential, hands-on learning as the primary purpose of food production, engaging children, families, and community members in full-cycle agricultural experiences
  • Increase production of farm-fresh food to support farm-to-table learning within educational programs and on-site activities
  • Expand access to healthy, locally grown food through on-site and mobile Farmers Markets
  • Partner with local nonprofit organizations to distribute farm-grown food and help address food insecurity in Lancaster County
  • Invest in planting perennial crops to strengthen long-term farm sustainability and support future value-added food production

Sustainability and Community Impact

Our overarching goal is to build a sustainable local food system that strengthens community access to fresh, healthy food while promoting environmental stewardship. By expanding Farm & School initiatives and partnering with hunger-relief organizations, we are intentionally using our land as both an educational resource and a source of nourishment—providing hands-on learning opportunities for all ages while growing food that supports community health and resilience.

Community Engagement and Support

We invite community members to support this work by purchasing farm-fresh food at our on-site or mobile Farmers Markets, with on-site markets operated by campers during summer camp weeks as part of their learning experience. Families attending camp may also contribute to our hunger-relief efforts during registration, directly supporting access to fresh, healthy food for individuals and families in need.

For more information about our food access and hunger-relief initiatives, please contact us at info@heritagecreekfarmcamp.com.

Our Farming Practices

Our farm provides fresh, seasonal, locally grown produce to our community. We believe everyone should have a meaningful connection to their food—knowing where it comes from and how it’s grown. Our farming practices are transparent and grounded in environmental stewardship.

We are passionate about teaching the next generation about sustainable agriculture, healthy eating, and caring for the land. Children and visitors actively participate in planting, harvesting, and learning alongside our farmers.

Our goal is to regenerate the land through holistic, biodiversity-focused farming. Regenerative agriculture improves soil health, increases biodiversity, restores ecosystems, and draws carbon into the earth—ensuring the land remains productive for future generations while supporting the health of our planet today.

Healthy ecosystems

Through using sustainable food production practices that works in harmony with nature, we let nature create healthy ecosystem on our farmland. By encouraging biodiversity, there are many plants and animals living along side each other just as nature intended.

Regenerative agriculture promotes rich soil conditions, protect watersheds, and enhances the health of local wildlife.  Through reducing disturbances and keeping the soil covered, we provide an environment for microbes to thrive. Healthy topsoil retains water, absorbs nutrients and stores carbon.

Healthy crops

Healthy crops

We use natural inputs made mostly from things grown on our farm to produce highly nutritious and hardy crops.

We plant a variety of heirloom seeds to help preserve time-tested seeds which tend to have superior taste and are more resistance to disease and insects

Healthy plants are more adaptable to extreme weather conditions.
